The Federal Government on Thursday said the previous National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) was all the while being held in custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, in light of the fact that he postures extraordinary danger to national security.
National Government's legal counselor, T.D. Kabiru made the clarification while contending against the arrival of the previous NSA at the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, court, Abuja.
Kabiru affirmed that the measure of unlawful weapons recouped from Dasuki's Abuja home and the insight report at the transfer of the country's security offices has it that more arms and ammo have not being recuperated, this he said supported Dasuki's proceeded with confinement.
The beset previous NSA had dragged the Federal Government under the watchful eye of the court, testing his proceeded with confinement by the DSS in spite of being allowed safeguard by a few courts.
Be that as it may, Kabiru in his contention said, "The position of the guard, which is not disputed by the candidate, is that the arms and ammo recuperated amid the inquiry is not by any means the only arms and ammo in the ownership of the candidate.
"There is trepidation that he has more. There is knowledge report that some are yet to be recuperated. That we fear he has more is a ground to hold him. There are on-going examinations which are uncovering new truths concerning him.
"The privilege of an individual can't supersede the security of a nation when there is knowledge report to associate the behavior with the person. The candidate did not deny that these firearms were recuperated from his home.
"By Section 3 of the Firearms Act, CAP F28 LFN 2004, Part One of the Schedule thereof recommends the arms that can't be authorized for individual's ownership. The arms found in his home fall into this class of denied arms.
"Since they were unlawfully kept by the candidate, the derivation is that they were kept for illicit purposes. The Federal Republic of Nigeria has supported, with the proof it has set under the steady gaze of the court, the detainment of the candidate on ground of his own wellbeing, and for the security of different Nigerians by righteousness of the security report got by the DSS."
